Made up of zinc and copper, brass is a metal alloy whose combined proportions can be varied to create a range of brasses with varying properties. Brass is used for decoration for its bright gold-like appearance; for applications where low friction is required such as:

  • Locks
  • Gears
  • Bearings
  • Doorknobs
  • Ammunition casings
  • Valves - for plumbing and electrical applications
Brass

Brass musical instruments such as horns and bells where a combination of high workability (historically with hand tools) and durability is desired.

Zippers - brass is often used in situations in which it is important that sparks not be struck, such as in fittings and tools used near flammable or explosive materials.

  • Camber is to be determined by placing an 8ft. straight edge against the concave edge of the strip.
  • Camber is the greatest deviation of the side edge from a straight line; the measurement being taken on the concave side with a straight edge.
