Electrical Meter
The customer was looking for a cost savings on 110 copper that was used in their meters. They were purchasing rectangular bar stock and fabricating the switch connectors. Due to the length of the bar stock there was a few inches of scrap from each bar plus the labor to cut and punch the holes in each piece used to mount the connectors in the meters. The Almetals sales engineer reviewed the process and recommended that the customer make a few changes to their process by using a slit-to-width copper coil instead of the rectangle bar. This change reduced the scrap by over 350% and reduced the labor to feed into their press by using payoff reel and flattener that provided the customer with a substantial cost savings.
